Rui Hachimura - Born February 8, 1998, in Toyama Prefecture, Rui Hachimura started basketball in middle school and led Meisei High School to three straight All-Japan High-School Tournament titles. Selected for Japan’s national team while still a student, he moved to the U.S. in 2016 to play at Gonzaga University. In his third season he helped the Bulldogs reach the NCAA Elite Eight and won the Julius Erving Award as the nation’s top small forward. In 2019, he became the first Japanese player drafted in the NBA first round, joining the Washington Wizards, and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Hachimura has played for the Los Angeles Lakers since 2023.
